1Sam 18:1 (NASU) Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself.

Jonathan knew just by looking at David that he was chosen to lead Israel and to be King.

Jonathan & David made a covenant with each other and swore a friendship to each other as long as they lived.

This friendship could not be broken by anything or anybody in Heaven or on Earth
