Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the
eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised
those who love him? James 2:5 NIV.
There is a tendency in man to look to himself just as quickly as he
achieves victory. No matter how many failed attempts we have in life, our human
side wants to think it has "arrived" the minute one item has good success.
Over the years I've had many opportunities to work side by side with
successful executives. One quality I always noted in Chief Executive
Officers was their humility. They seldom resorted to proving themselves
on anything.
Over the years I've had many opportunities to work side by side with
junior executives, managers, directors. One quality I've noted in many is the
tendency to "sell themselves" to others. At times the prancing and
jockeying for position can be comical. A phrase you are likely to hear
is, "He who doesn't toot his own horn, doesn't have his horn tooted." Rarely
do you come back and see those "horn tooters" in executive positions. If
they make it, they are constantly watching their backside and live a miserable
existence.
Winners never forget that their success is built on the shoulders of those
around them. They constantly serve their servants. One of my heroes was
the Chief Financial Officer of a mid-size retail chain. Invariably when
we would be in meetings, he was the first on there, had the coffee on and
would continually get up to serve coffee to the table when he noticed someone's
getting low. In a silent, gracious manner he continued to oversee the
meeting while serving those around him.
Jer:29:11: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the
LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil(not of frustration), to give you an
expected end (good success).
Winners know that and are comfortable with it. They don't expect life to
be their servant. They do expect life to turn their way while they serve
those in it. They do keep a sense of their position in life.
Ps:50:23: Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth
his conversation (lifestyle, way of doing life) aright will I shew the
salvation of God.
Have I kept the right attitude through success?
Do I continue to invest myself in the lives of others around me that
contribute to my success?
Is my expectation aright?
Who has helped me that needs my service today?
Father, humble me. I know that can be a dangerous prayer. But, Father, I
need to stay like You. You serve us every day and we deserve nothing.
You made this world to serve us and we deserve nothing. You provide good
success in our lives, and we deserve nothing. Help me to be like You.
Help me to serve all those around me, who serve me. Help me keep my attitude
serving and expecting to serve.
