Philippians 3:13-14 "...but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
This is the Season of Graduations. All across the country kids are
graduating from colleges, high schools, trade schools, and the list
goes on. During this time it is so easy to start "forgetting those
things which are behind" (studying, research papers, and tests) and start "reaching forth unto those things which are before"... look toward the future (jobs, family, travel, sleep).
BUT....What is the Future without God?
Look at Paul's thoughts on the matter. He says in Phillipians 3:4-5
says, "If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I
more so:" Why? "Circumcised the eighth day of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee." In short, Paul says that if anybody thinks they can depend on self than I more so, because I had a good pedigree, I've been well trained and had a high position in life. In fact, I taught and directed others in the law.
BUT...in spite of all of that "what things were gain to me, these I
have counted loss for Christ. But indeed I also count all things loss
for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ. And be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith." (Phil. 3:7-9)
WHAT IS PAUL SAYING? Well, Jesus said it best in Matthew 16:26, "For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul." We may chase the things of this world only to find that bring only a temporal happiness, but true joy will only come to those who rest in Christ!
Less we become confused....EDUCATION IS IMPORTANT, but while we are pursuing our BA, MD, PHD, etc., make sure we get the BA of
Christianity....BORN AGAIN!!!
Let us always remember to continue to "press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" and to teach our kids and others the same!
Have a Blessed Day ...Be PRAYERFUL and THANKFUL for all Things!!!
