Psalms 102:25-27 (Amplified) "At the beginning You existed and laid the foundations of the earth; the heavens are the works of Your hands. They shall perish, but You shall remain and endure; yes, all of them shall wear out and become old like a garment. Like clothing You shall change them, and they shall be changed and pass away. But You remain the same, and Your years shall have no end."
If we look around us today we shall realize that this world is changing continuously. There have been changes in the government, changes in the economy, changes on our jobs and changes in our lives. Even this year of 1997, as in the previous years, has been a year of change. Yet, through all the changes that we have faced and will face there is one thing that has and will never change, God Himself!
Our scriptures this morning are from Psalms 102 which is a prayer. A prayer of the afflicted. A prayer of one who has been overwhelmed and now pours himself out to the LORD. You know there comes a time in all of our lives that we feel that we are all alone. We feel that the world and the things around us are changing faster than we can adopt to deal with them. We feel overwhelmed by our jobs, our families, and many times just by life in general.
But...Thank God He opens our spiritual eye that we might see His presence and have the strength to go on. In the midst of our weeping, in the midst of our heartfelt prayers, God will show Himself strong. The Psalmist in our passage recognizes several things in his prayer that we would do good to grasp hold to:
Firstly, that God laid the foundation of the earth and that the heavens are the works of His hands.
Secondly, that we shall grow old, change and perish, but yet He shall remain and endure.
Thirdly, that God is the same and His years shall have no end. (Hebrews 1:12 adds that neither shall His years come to failure!)
Genesis says in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, but too many have taken to worshipping the created and not the creator, God Himself. There is a song lets us know that, 'Time is filled with swift transition, naught (nothing) on earth unmoved shall stand', but the chorus gives us the secret of survival, 'hold to God's unchanging hand'.
Yes, it is true that we live in a very fast paced and changing world, but there is one things that remains the same and shall always remain the same... GOD! He is the same yesterday, today and forever more. We need to hold to Him for He is the one who shall give us peace in the midst of the storms and stability when every thing else is sinking sand.
James 1:17 says, " Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation neither shadow of turning."
You know that if you bake a cake that even if it is the same cake, it is never the same for the consistency will vary from one to another. But...During our times of change, we need something to hold on to. Something we can trust and depend on. We have that in God in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ in whom there is no change!
NOTE: Diversity is good in some things, but not in our spiritual life. Praise God that we have God in whom there is no variation!
Have a Blessed Day ...Be PRAYERFUL and THANKFUL for all things.
