Discipleship Lesson # 3

Read the following verses very carefully. God knows that the only way we will have relationship with him, is if HE comes to us, as one of us, among us as our countrymen. Oh how much does our God love us, to send his very son, even when HE knows what we would do to HIM.

Read what Moses told the people in the wilderness

Deut 18:15 "The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him. 16 "This is according to all that you asked of the Lord your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, `Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, let me not see this great fire anymore, or I will die.' 17 "The Lord said to me, `They have spoken well. 18 `I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.

Jesus knew that some people would not believe him, but he ask them to believe the work that he did so they may believe on God who sent him.

John 6:29 (KJS) Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

If you believe on Him who sent Jesus, then His Spirit will introduce you to Jesus. (Read John 14:6-20)

The Easton's Dictionary gives us a good account as to the authority and person of Jesus the Messiah - the Priest - The Prophet Easton's Dict. 818 Christ anointed, the Greek translation of the Hebrew word rendered "Messiah" (q.v.), the official title of our Lord, occurring five hundred and fourteen times in the New Testament. It denotes that he was anointed or consecrated to his great redemptive work as Prophet, Priest, and King of his people.

He is Jesus the Christ Acts 17:3 ,18:5 & Mt 22:42

He is thus spoken of by Isaiah Isa 61:1

The Messiah is the same person as "the seed of the woman"

Gene 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The seed of Abraham

Gene 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Prophet like unto Moses

This is he "of whom Moses in the law and the prophets did write." The Old Testament Scripture is full of prophetic declarations regarding the Great Deliverer and the work he was to accomplish. Jesus the Christ is Jesus the Great Deliverer, the Anointed One, the Saviour of men. This name denotes that Jesus was divinely appointed, commissioned, and accredited as the Saviour of men

Hebr 5:4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as [was] Aaron.

Isai 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: quick...: Heb. scent or, smell} 4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

To believe that "Jesus is the Christ" is to believe that he is the Anointed, the Messiah of the prophets, the Saviour sent of God, that he was, in a word, what he claimed to be. This is to believe the gospel, by the faith of which alone men can be brought unto God. That Jesus is the Christ is the testimony of God, and the faith of this constitutes a Christian

1Co 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and [that] no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

1Joh 5:1 (KJS) Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
