Isai
9:1 (NASU) But there will be no [more] gloom for her who was in
anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land
of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make [it] glorious, by
the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the
Gentiles.

in a dark land, The
light will shine on them.

Mark 6:45-54; John 1:44; John 12:21 Gadara [GAD-uh-ruh; "walls"] A
city in the Transjordan, located about 6 miles (10 km) SE of the Sea of
Galilee. It was a Greek city, a member of the Decapolis, and served as
the capital of the Roman province of Perea. It was the nearest large
city to the site by the E shore of the Sea of Galilee where Christ cast
out the demon called Legion. |
Towns
of the Galilee Region: Magdala [MAG-duh-luh] A small town on the West shore of the Sea of Galilee, between Tiberias and Capernaum. Home of Mary Magdalene. John 19:25; John 20:1; John 20:18 Tiberias (coastal
city)[tie-BEER-ee-us] A city on the W coast of the Sea of Galilee,
named in honor of Emperor Tiberius by Herod Antipas, who founded the
city about A.D. 21. Tiberias was a popular Roman resort, with hot
springs just S of the city. Said to have occupied the site of Rakkath,
the town of Naphtali (Josh. 19:35). Jewish rumor held that it was built
over a graveyard. Therefore it was declared unclean, and Jews refused
to enter the city. Ironically, it became the chief center of rabbinic
learning in the centuries following the fall of Jerusalem. Korazin [KOR-uh-zin] A town on
the Sea of Galilee, condemned by Christ for its failure to repent.
Identified with modern Kerazeh, about 2 miles (3 km) N of Capernaum. Capernaum [kuh-PER-nay-uhm;
"village of Nahum"] An important city in NT times, located on the NW
shore of the Sea of Galilee. After Jesus left Nazareth, Capernaum
became the headquarters of his ministry in Galilee. It is identified
with Tell Hum. |

Mark 5:5 (KJS) And
always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs,
crying, and cutting himself with stones. 6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, 7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, [thou] Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. 8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, [thou] unclean spirit. 9 And he asked him, What [is] thy name? And he answered, saying, My name [is] Legion: for we are many. 10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. 11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. 12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. 13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. 14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told [it] in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done. 15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. |

Each one of us has a certain
attachment to Galilee. Many people first met the Lord Jesus at Galilee. Their needs were met there and they saw the power of the living God. Peter's first encounter with the living God was at Galilee. Mary of Magdala's first encounter was at Galilee. I remember my first encounter with the living God. I even wrote a sermon about it. Easton'
Dictionary) Galilee also was the home of our Lord during at least thirty years of his life. The first three Gospels are chiefly taken up with our Lord's public ministry in this province. "The entire province is encircled with a halo of holy associations connected with the life, works, and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth." "It is noteworthy that of his thirty-two beautiful parables, no less than ninteen were spoken in Galilee. And it is no less remarkable that of his entire thirty-three great miracles, twenty-fivewere wrought in this province. His first miracle was wrought at the wedding in Cana of Galilee, and his last, after his resurrection, on the shore of Galilee's sea. In Galilee our Lord delivered the Sermon on The Mount, and the discourses on 'The Bread of Life,' on 'Purity,' on 'Forgiveness,'and on 'Humility.' |

This picture was taken at our
first night in Galilee. The hotel was very nice and the Lake Galilee was a beautiful sight. Many
thoughts went though my head that night. I
think it would be a good idea to walk |
