Amen

AMEN is a transliteration of a Hebrew word signifying something as certain, sure and valid, truthful and faithful. It is sometimes translated, _so be it._

In the Old Testament it is used to show the acceptance of the validity of a curse or an oath Num 5:22 Deut 27:15-26 Jer. 11:5 to indicate acceptance of a good message #Jer. 28:6 and to join in a doxology in a worship setting to affirm what has been said or prayed 1 Chron. 16:36 Neh. 8:6 Ps 106:48 _Amen_ may confirm what already is, or it may indicate a hope for something desired. In Jewish prayer, _amen_ comes at the end as an affirmative response to a statement or wish made by others, and is so used in the New Testament epistles Rom 1:25 11:36 15:33 1 Cor. 16:24 Gal 1:5 Eph 3:21 Phil. 4:20 Paul ended some of his letters with _amen_ 1The 5:28 2The 3:18

In the gospels, Jesus used _amen_ to affirm the truth of His own statements. English translations often use _verily,_ _truly,_ _I tell you the truth_ to translate Jesus+ amen. He never said it at the end of a statement, but always at the beginning: _Amen, I say to you Matt 5:18 16:28 Mark 8:12 11:23 Luke 4:24 21:32 John 1:51; 5:19 In John+s Gospel, Jesus said _Amen, amen._ That Jesus prefaced His own words with _amen_ is especially important, for He affirmed that the kingdom of God is bound up with His own person and emphasized the authority of what He said.
Matt 5:18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
Matt 16:28 "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."
Mark 8:12 Sighing deeply in His spirit, He ^said, "Why does this generation seek for a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation."
Mark 11:23 "Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, `Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be [granted] him.
Luke 4:24 And He said, "Truly I say to you, no prophet is welcome in his hometown.
Luke 21:32 "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place.
John 1:51 And He ^said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."
John 5:19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless [it is] something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

Jesus is called _The Amen_ in Rev 3:14 meaning that He Himself is the reliable and true witness of God. Perhaps the writer had in mind Isa 65:16 where the Hebrew says _God of Amen._
Reve 3:14 "To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this:
Isai 65:16 "Because he who is blessed in the earth will be blessed by the God of truth;
And he who swears in the earth will swear by the God of truth; Because the former troubles are forgotten,
And because they are hidden from My sight!
