How can God's lambs grow if they don't stop long enough to get nourishment.

Shepherds in Palestine and the East generally go before their flocks, which they induce to follow by calling to them.

John 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

The following quotation from Hartley's "Researches in Greece and the Levant," p. 321, is strikingly illustrative of the allusions in John 10:1-16

"Having had my attention directed last night to the words in (John 10:3) I asked my man if it was usual in Greece to give names to the sheep. He informed me that it was, and that the sheep obeyed the shepherd when he called them by their names. This morning I had an opportunity of verifying the truth of this remark. Passing by a flock of sheep I asked the shepherd the same question which I had put to the servant, and he gave me the same answer. I then had him call one of his sheep. He did so, and it instantly left its pasturage and its companions and ran up to the hands of the shepherd with signs of pleasure and with a prompt obedience which I had never before observed in any other animal. It is also true in this country that a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him. The shepherd told me that many of his sheep were still wild, that they had not yet learned their names, but that by teaching them they would all learn them." The common sheer, of Syria and Palestine are the broad-tailed. As the sheep is an emblem of meekness, patience and submission, it is expressly mentioned as typifying these qualities in the person of our blessed Lord.

Isai 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Acts 8:32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

In closing, comments from Reverand Bob Stevens

It is very difficult to grow spiritually and to have an impact on your own or any other peoples lives, if you are constantly listening to other voices beside the shepherd the Lord has chosen for you. Pastors are men and women that God has ordained to look after you and to help protect you and make you grow up, whether you want to or not.

If you are always moving from one church to another church just because you didn't like what someone said or what the Pastor's messages were about, then you need to take another look at your walk with the Holy Spirit. If these things upset you at one church, they will also upset you any place you go.

God has a plan for each and every Church that will submit to the Holy Spirit. He also has a plan for you in that Church. But if you never allow the Holy Spirit to place you in a place where you only hear the voice of one shepherd, then you will follow anybody anywhere to anyplace for anything. This will lead to always being a child and having no discernment about Spiritual things. You will never understand the deep things of God and will not able to help your brothers and sisters when they need you.

Paul writes to the church the following:

Ephe 4:14 (KJS) That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
